Northwoods
Maple
Northwoods Maple is a student run business founded in 2019 and operated through the Hurley K-12's woodshop program. All maples syrup is tapped, collected, packaged, and sold by Hurley High School students.

In 2022 we hosted our first Maple Syrup Open House where we offered tours of the Sap Shack and a behind the scenes look at how we operate. Visitors got to watch as students made and packaged the day's maple syrup and were offered samples to try. The Iron County Extension also had a table there due to their help in this year's production
We also offered an open house experience for all of the elementary students in the building where they were given maple syrup ice cream and given a speech explaining the maple syrup process by some of our students before getting a tour of the sap shack by Mr. Peterson and Mr. Rye.

After a very tough year for syrup in 2023, 2024's warm weather brought ample opportunity for the students to produce more syrup. We hosted our second annual open house and once again provided ice cream for the elementary school students. A slideshow was also created for the occasion in hopes for more engagement. The students then got to experience a tour of the sap shack and the maple taps placed on school property.
