310 - Introduction to Mortise/Tenon Joinery – Bookshelf
This class is taken after intermediate level classes and will teach the fundamentals of mortise and tenon joinery. This type of joinery is centuries old and is one of the most sturdy and versatile joints found in the most elaborate furniture. This joinery technique is very solid structurally and often used in chairs and furniture. The mortise and tenon joint often appears very complex and difficult to create. However, in this class, you will learn how to use a table saw with a dado blade to create precise tenons and then use a mortising machine to cut square holes with drill bit to make perfectly matched mortises. In this class, students will use the table saw and mortising machine to build their own bookcase from whatever wood combination they choose based on artistic preference and budget. This class will give students the basic knowledge of mortise and tenon joinery that will allow them to use the fundamentals to evolve and create much more complex joinery used in beautiful furniture.
Students must provide their own lumber
